The Good Ship Google Hits the Iceberg

"Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is, I don't know which half?" - John Wanamaker (1838-1922), department-store magnate"

The great promise of Google was that you would finally know what half.

Did they deliver on that?

Yeah... To a degree... At first.

The problem is that Google hasn't moved significantly off that first step. The AdWords business model hasn't changed.  A search on Google to get a holster for a CZ P-07 gets you one advertised result at the top of the page... And that is Amazon.  Google gets paid if and only if you click on that link.*

This model hasn't significantly evolved for twenty years.

And AdWords doesn't transition to other platforms.

YouTube comes irresistibly to mind.

Big Bang Theory gets (ballpark figure) about 15 million viewers per week. It's gross revenue for it's parent company has been estimated at $1 billion a year.

That is for twenty two episodes a year

PewdiePie is the biggest star on YouTube.  Fuck, at nine billion views he is the biggest star on the planet. His daily subscriber list is double the size of Big Bang Theory's weekly audience. And he makes 7.4 million a year.  Okay, I admit 7.4 is a not bad for an annual salary.  But like I said, the biggest  star on the planet and easily the most underpaid... Or is he?

If Google is being honest with it's content providers (and truthfully I think they are), then he is only generating $15 million a year in gross revenue.  Think about that.  he is the biggest star on the planet, has very little in the way of production expenses and he is making about a third of what the guy who plays Raj makes.  YouTube is reliant on ads to make money and clearly it isn't

Also they don't want PewdiePie to be their biggest star anymore because he's White.

When YouTube Heroes was announced, it was clearly an open invitation for SJWs to censor content they didn't like.

So on top of being barely profitable (assuming they are making a profit at all), the SJWs entrenched at Google have decided to let their little siblings attack any content provider who is not down with the latest GoodThink.

This is such a hideous idea, I was left wondering if there was a more Machiavellian motive involved.
Was Google going to transfer the worst of it's SJW trouble makers to YouTube and then spin it off?  Put all the rotten eggs in one basket and then drop the basket?

The answer to that became clear this week. If Google considers any eggs at all to be rotten it is the likes of profitable but unfortunately mentally unhygienic ones like James Damore.  This guy ain't Alt Right by any manner or means, in fact I think he's center Left but having a grasp of human reality was enough to get him fired.

From Breitbart

“While Google appears to be doing very little to quell the hostile voices that exists inside the company, I want those hostile voices to know: I will never, ever hire hire/transfer you onto my team. Ever. I don’t care if you are perfect fit of technically excellent or whatever,” declared former employee Adam Fletcher in a post on Google’s internal, staff-only Google+ network: “Internal Plus.” “I will actively not work with you, even to the point where your team or product is impacted by this decision. I’ll communicate why to your manager if it comes up.”

“You’re being blacklisted by people at companies outside of Google,” he continued. “You might not have been aware of this, but people know, people talk. There are always social consequences.”

In another post, alleged Site Reliability Manager Paul Cowan warned to employees that “freedom of speech is the right to freely express an opinion. It is most assuredly not the right to express an opinion with freedom from the consequences.”

Cowan continued to reference a post from Google dissidents, who were discussing the blacklists being created by an “SJW cabal” at the company, before defending the concept of punishing anti-SJW employees.

“To be clear: this is, in my opinion, perfectly acceptable,” he declared. “Quoting this as if it were some egregious abuse of power, or of your rights, is laughable… My life, happiness, and mental health, are worth too much to me to burn my precious happy-fu working with people I find contemptible, unpleasant, or even in some cases merely irritating.”

So rather than get a job at a university he wants them all taken out and shot... For the crime of being "merely irritating."

If you own Google stock, now is the time to lock in your profit.

*Don't click on that link BTW, I'll be testing a holster from AlienGear this week.  I'll let you know how that goes.
