The #NeverTrumps Are Lost In Gamma World

Initially I had some sympathy for the #NeverTrumps.  I wasn't one of them but I understood or at least I thought I understood where they were coming from.

Wrong call.

Well that's hardly a first.

On the face of it, Trump is a high risk candidate in a year where the Democrats are exceptionally weak.  Obama is little short of a failed president and the heir to the throne is too old, too familiar and too tainted by a thousand shabby little back room deals.  She isn't good at covering up her own corruption and (this is critical for a presidential candidate) who the hell would want to have a beer with her?

Why throw the dice with a guy who comes with Trump's baggage when the election looked to be 90 percent in the bag?

Fine, your guy didn't win.  Treat yourself to a little butthurt. Go stump around the house in a funk.  Have a few too many before the sun is across the yardarm.  Then it's time straighten your shoulders and get back to work because the important thing is beating Hillary.

As I said, wrong call.

The #NeverTrumps are now in a land of unreason and delusion.  Disconnected from the reality of their little movement.  Which is that they are actively working for the Hillary Clinton campaign.  They deny it as if they were hard left SJWs denying that are only two genders.  They can barely keep from shaking their heads, no when you point out to them that before next January  is out, either Trump or Hillary will be president.  There is no third possibility.

It took a while for me to accept that these people (some of whom, I have admired in the past) are little short of SJWs themselves.

Their opposition to Trump is entirely emotional.

They are pretending to stand for principle when in fact they are simply jealous and resentful.

When they look at Trump every damn one of them suddenly remembers the stench of the high school boys locker-room.  A place of abject terror for a fourteen year old nerd.  The smell comes rushing back to them, that stink of collective BO, mildew and industrial strength antiseptic cleaner.  Quick scan, did Big Don notice me? No he is laughing with his jerk friends.   Change shirt first, that's important because at no time do you want to be completely naked.  Another threat scan.  Was Big Don looking at me from they corner of his eye?  Maybe not. Okay, now for the really scary part, taking off my pants.  Quickly now, belt buckle, unbutton, unzip.  Shuck down! The air is cold and damp on the legs.  But it's almost over, hang the pants on the hook and grab the gym shorts.  Nearly safe.  Bend over to...

YANK!

The sound of tearing elastic as underwear is suddenly jerked between the buttocks.  Testicles are painfully clenched, tears are in the eyes.

And laughter.  Big Donny and is friends are laughing.

"Jokes on you Donny.  I just had a an orgasm!"

Big Don stops smiling and closes in.

Later with the coppery thick taste of blood in the mouth..."When you think about it.  I won that fight!"

LION TED CRUZ

David Frum ‏@davidfrum
Ted Cruz earned the most honorable boos at a GOP convention since those for Nelson Rockefeller for condemning the John Birch Society.

Erick Erickson ‏@EWErickson
Ted Cruz is the only one in Cleveland not willing to whore himself to Cheeto Jesus. History will favor him.

Matthew Continetti ‏@continetti
The nationalists may very well take over the GOP for years to come. That doesn't mean conservatives should be quiet. @tedcruz won't be.

Jonah Goldberg‏@JonahNRO
I choose Ted.

Robert P. George ‏@McCormickProf
Ted has never been afraid to enter a hostile environment and speak his mind. He was like that even as an undergrad. He can't be intimidated.

Erick Erickson ‏@EWErickson
Trump supporters have so much butt hurt over Cruz, who said to go vote in November and congratulated Trump.

Erick Erickson ‏@EWErickson
Of note, Ted Cruz is getting praised from both the left and right of the GOP, but not from the establishment. Perfect set up for 2020.

Ted Cruz Had His Vito Corleone Moment; Trump And The RNC Hate It Didn't Backfire

Just saying you won a fight is almost as good as winning it, right?

They are so far gone in Gamma hate for Trump they are as blind as any campus SJW to the reality that they are working hard to create...a Clinton Presidency.

Ace more or less gets it.

All choices have consequences. By supporting Trump, I am responsible for the consequences of a Trump victory -- and those consequences could indeed be dire.

But a childish morally-unserious fantasy has infected the #NeverTrump not-so-intellgentsia, that they can agitate for Hillary Clinton -- by relentlessly disparaging Trump -- and somehow, they are not responsible for the consequences of the Hillary presidency they are bucking for.

They've dreamed up this self-pleasing, responsibility-evading dreamscape in which those who plump for Trump are responsible for the outcomes of a Trump presidency, but, for no explanation thusfar discoverable, they are not responsible for the outcomes of the Hillary presidency they're agitating for.

I tried to explain to them that there is no such thing as a consequence-free choice -- all choices have consequences, both on the upside and the downside -- and both the upside and downswide consequences must be considered by any adult, intellectually-serious person in making his choice.

But they like this idea that, like little children, they are free to gambol and play in the fields and this does not even perturb the leading edge of a butterfly's wing, and so they just keep teling me "No you're wrong" without saying why I'm wrong.

Which, seriously, is a rather important part of any argument beginning with the words "You're wrong."
I ask people: When you knocked Obama in 2012, and wrote posts and comments noting his flaws, did you think you were doing nothing to improve Mitt Romney's chances of winning the presidency?
If so-- why the fuck did you bother?

Of course, this is silly; everyone knows that when one buys ads attacking a candidate, one is helping that candidate's opponent win.

If Trump wins the #NeverTrumps have proven their irrelevance.

If Trump loses by anything that approaches normal margins, they have actively colluded with Hillary campaign.

Either way they have proven themselves more hysterical than useful and the new rightwing is well rid of them.
