"It’s Time for the Elites to Rise Up Against the Ignorant Masses"

I'm going to be extraordinarily generous here and assume that James grunted out this steaming mound of Foriegn Policy journalism against a deadline.

I understand James, it happens to everyone.

James, I'm going to be assume that you were never in the military or at least there is nothing in your Wikipedia entry to suggest that you were.  So I'm going to serve you a nice big bowl of the fucking obvious;

The. Governed. Always. Have. Force On. Their. Side.

I suppose I could leave it at that but it's been a while since I've done a fisking.  I need the right amount of pomposity combined with absurdity to do that.  And brother have you ever delivered.

I was born in 1954, and until now I would have said that the late 1960s was the greatest period of political convulsion I have lived through.

Although pretty far from the greatest the country has ever been through but then that didn't involve Baby Boomers so the Civil War is unimportant.

Yet for all that the Vietnam War and the civil rights struggle changed American culture and reshaped political parties, in retrospect those wild storms look like the normal oscillations of a relatively stable political system. The present moment is different. Today’s citizen revolt — in the United States, Britain, and Europe — may upend politics as nothing else has in my lifetime.

Again something is significant if and only if, it ever happened to Boomers.  Look up a  decade called the nineteen thirties you self important jack-wagon.

In the late 1960s, elites were in disarray, as they are now — but back then they were fleeing from kids rebelling against their parents’ world; now the elites are fleeing from the parents. Extremism has gone mainstream.

The two aren't remotely comparable.  Spoiled, cowardly children having a hissy fit and then getting over it the second they were clear of the draft, is not the same the crisis of legitimacy every institution in the West now faces.

Also, the elites aren't fleeing from the their parents they are fleeing from the their children.  Professors live in terror of their student.  Boomers suddenly find themselves under SJW siege if they use a PC term that is a week out of date.

Things that Gen X laughed at, the Millennials are trying to outlaw in the name of being safe!

One of the most brazen features of the Brexit vote was the utter repudiation of the bankers and economists and Western heads of state who warned voters against the dangers of a split with the European Union. British Prime Minister David Cameron thought that voters would defer to the near-universal opinion of experts; that only shows how utterly he misjudged his own people.

Here the writers pomposity is married to his gradiosity.  The Authorities whom he represents have spoken you insignificant, miserable little ticks.  You have no right to not take their word as having the force of a Law That Governs the Physical Cosmos.  Now, hear this and tremblingly obey!

And the funny part is The People called it right.  The markets have already rebounded.  The immediate effects were always going to minor and temporary.  A few people that bet wrong on the markets took a bath, (please note the Remain advocate George Soros was NOT one of these) but that was it in the short term  Long term the Brits are better off out of the Union as the Euro is fundamentally unsound.

Both the Conservative and the Labour parties in Britain are now in crisis. The British have had their day of reckoning; the American one looms. If Donald Trump loses, and loses badly (forgive me my reckless optimism, but I believe he will) the Republican Party may endure a historic split between its know-nothing base and its K Street/Chamber of Commerce leadership class.

The party is already split.  It's been split for two years  If he had ever talked to a Republican in his life he would know that.

Of course that would mean talking to a Republican instead of at one and that is an unimaginable horror for SWPLs like James.

The Socialist government of France may face a similar fiasco in national elections next spring: Polls indicate that President François Hollande would not even make it to the final round of voting. Right-wing parties all over Europe are clamoring for an exit vote of their own.

The socialist government of the United States has a similar problem.  Good lord, your candidates this year were a woman being investigated for treason and a senile Communist, who won't admit that he's a Communist.

Yes, it’s possible that all the political pieces will fly up into the air and settle down more or less where they were before,

No, it isn't

Britain is out of the EU. That's happening.

We aren't listening to the Grand Poo-bahs of the GOP anymore and in consequence they are leaving the party.  That's happening.

Dream what you like, the toothpaste is not going to find its way back into the tube.

but the Brexit vote shows that shocking change isn’t very shocking anymore. Where, then, could those pieces end up? Europe is already pointing in one direction. In much of Europe, far-right nativist parties lead in the polls. So far, none has mustered a majority, though last month Norbert Hofer, the leader of Austria’s far-right Freedom Party, which traffics in Nazi symbolism, came within a hair of winning election as president. Mainstream parties of the left and right may increasingly combine forces to keep out the nationalists. This has already happened in Sweden, where a right-of-center party serves as the minority partner to the left-of-center government. If the Socialists in France do in fact lose the first round, they will almost certainly support the conservative Republicans against the far-right National Front.

If you aren't a globalist, you are Jew burning NAZI.  Just in case you missed the oh so subtle subtext.

What guys like James are really mad about is this.  The EU is their idea of a perfect government.  A rule of law as dictated by an unelected commission of 22 left-wing bureaucrats. Overseen by a an elected but completely impotent parliament.  Of course they are pissed as hell anyone would give their notion of perfection the finger and opt for freedom.

Perhaps these informal coalitions can survive until the fever breaks. But the imperative of cohabitation could also lead to genuine realignment. That is, chunks of parties from the left and right of center could break away to form a different kind of center, defending pragmatism, meliorism, technical knowledge, and effective governance against the ideological forces gathering on both sides. It’s not hard to imagine the Republican Party in the United States — and perhaps the British Conservatives should Brexit go terribly wrong — losing control of the angry, nationalist rank and file and reconstituting themselves as the kind of Main Street, pro-business parties they were a generation ago, before their ideological zeal led them into a blind alley. That may be their only alternative to irrelevance.

(*sigh*)  We aren't pro-business, we never were.  We are pro-free market.  Which is a big difference.

You see James, businesses only like Free-Markets when they are directly benefiting from them.  When they aren't they use government and law (or rather regulation) to squeeze out their competitors.  American Businesses will think nothing of ruining the entire country in the name of short term profit.

And it doesn't have to be a big one.  An H1B visa holder is on average a measly 15% cheaper than the American programer he displaced.

The issue, at bottom, is globalization. Brexit, Trump, the National Front, and so on show that political elites have misjudged the depth of the anger at global forces and thus the demand that someone, somehow, restore the status quo ante.

Oh hell no.  You couldn't have called that one more wrong.  WE DON'T WANT MORE OF THE SAME

It may seem strange that the reaction has come today rather than immediately after the economic crisis of 2008, but the ebbing of the crisis has led to a new sense of stagnation.

And now you miss something that actually was from the sixties.  We have been in a low intensity civil war in this country since 1968.  The only reason you seem to noticed now is because you just lost a major battle.

With prospects of flat growth in Europe

There is no growth in Europe at all it's in a state of retraction

and minimal income growth in the United States,

The USA is also in a state of economic retraction.  We are only holding off the effects of that by titanic amounts of government debt.  That won't work forever.

voters are rebelling against their dismal long-term prospects. And globalization means culture as well as economics: Older people whose familiar world is vanishing beneath a welter of foreign tongues and multicultural celebrations are waving their fists at cosmopolitan elites.

You are all obsolete and racist!  RACIST!  RACIST!  Come on doesn't that word bother you anymore?  What do mean we've been calling you that for eight years, so the word has lost all meaning for you?  How dare you not be offended by being called, RACIST!

I was recently in Poland, where a far-right party appealing to nationalism and tradition has gained power despite years of undeniable prosperity under a centrist regime. Supporters use the same words again and again to explain their vote: “values and tradition.” They voted for Polishness against the modernity of Western Europe.

The Poles are easily the best long term prospect in Europe at the moment.  They actually have a decent chance when the Big Crunch comes. Culturally they are completely sound...largely because they don't take people like you seriously, James.

(*The next three paragraphs are just doggerel in support of his paradigm.  Go read them yourself if you have taste for second rate propagantastic word-salad. *)

Did I say “ignorant”? Yes, I did. It is necessary to say that people are deluded and that the task of leadership is to un-delude them. Is that “elitist”? Maybe it is; maybe we have become so inclined to celebrate the authenticity of all personal conviction that it is now elitist to believe in reason, expertise, and the lessons of history. If so, the party of accepting reality must be prepared to take on the party of denying reality, and its enablers among those who know better. If that is the coming realignment, we should embrace it.

" believe in reason, expertise, and the lessons of history."  You only have to believe in them you understand.  You don't have to think about them in the least.  Certainly you aren't allowed to do that and come to your own conclusions.

The most irritating thing about Ass-bags like James is that they are convinced that the NAZIs were the greatest evil ever perpetrated on human kind...because they went after the wrong people.

Neil deGrasse Tyson, recently embarrassed himself  (yet again but he never notices when he does that, so fuck it), when he made a cry from the heart for the establishment of #Rationalia.

"Earth needs a virtual country: , with a one-line Constitution: All policy shall be based on the weight of evidence"

Ignoring the fairly massive problem that Neil doesn't actually define "evidence"  Legal, biological, logical mathematical, psychological (and on and on indefinitely.  Like anything else Neil says it only sounds good if you don't' think about it at all.) It sounds like just the kind of place James wants us to all live in because he is a journalist and he knows best.  Even if he doesn't' really know much of anything else, he's just good at sounding like he does.

However Rationalia sounded familiar to our friend Larry Correia.

"Does he think this is new?

Eugenics was once considered settled science.

The Holodomor and the Holocaust were both justified as rational and scientific at the time. The Terror was the result of "weighing evidence."

The "weight of evidence" inevitably says that it is okay to get rid of the undesirables, the untermensch, the casteless, the kulaks, or whoever else the learned men of the day decide is in the way of progress this time.

Smug bastards like Neil always think that they are so much smarter than all those who have come before, because this time their keen scientific minds have risen above, and this time they truly will know what is best for all us proles.

Because they're the rational ones."

Of course they are friend Larry, just ask them and they'll be happy to tell you.  Of course they will also be happy to tell you why there are northwards of fifty-eight genders instead of the actual two that really exist.

You have to be sooper rational like James in order to understand something that bat-shit insane.

Trump? A Communist?

I thought he was Hitler and Nazis and Commies were 100% opposites?

Can these tards get any dumber?

The Nazis and communists were both socialists, and thus both on the left side of the political spectrum.

Nazi is short for Nationalsozialist (National Socialist).

USSR stands for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

All Nazis and all communists are leftists.

Trump, because he is NOT on the left, is neither a Nazi or communists.

There's a lot of irony in the left calling Trump a Nazi (a leftist).
