Urban Warfare

I watched about seven people die. A couple of them were three feet from the barrier. They could have fallen backwards and been alive but they were too scared to even turn around. I remember a woman just standing with her hands up in a surrender pose. The terrorist finally saw her and all she did was go, “No no no.” She surrendered to death in front of my very eyes. I was yelling at her, “HEY!” and I don’t think she could hear me. She was so terrified, I think she’d already given up.--   Jesse Hughes, Eagles of Death  discussing the Bataclan attack in Paris

Back in nineteen ninety mumble-mumble, back when I was in the Marine Corps and my life held purpose and meaning.   I attended one of those god-awful future of warfare seminars.

The Marine Corps was at that time violently shrugging off an unusual experiment with intelligent thought.  Having indulged Al Gray and Jim Webb in adopting the German School of Third Generation warfare as opposed to the Second Generation French School.

For a brief period we had been all about facing reality.  But those dark days were gone and anyone backing the wrong school of thought was going to find himself in a Window Seat (your job is stare out of a window) at some staff hq.  I knew a guy who was a Lt. Col. at the time suddenly diverted from a posting where he was going to be commanding a Recruit Battalion at Paris Island, to commanding a rifle range.  For those of you who don't know what this means, the former job is high profile and means they are looking at the possibility of making you a general. The later job is done by a Warrant Officer but can be conducted by a Master Sergeant. His career was over and everyone knew why, they weren't even trying to make it look good.

So it was back to the joys of storming beachheads in mindlessly suicidal frontal assaults because that was the Marine Corps Way.  Unfortunately we didn't have any cooperative enemies who were entrenching on islands in the pacific.  Consequently everyone dialed back the knob to riverine warfare.  Which was the Navy's job but they didn't want to do it.

Anyway, I was trying to avoid someone so I went to a different panel.  This one was on urban warfare and why that was going to be the future of war in the 21st century.  I wish I could say I had grasped the big picture concept at the time but I didn't.  I thought he was right and in the best of second generation warfare thinking, I began imaging ways to pound the round peg of high tech warfare into the low tech world of Fourth Gen warfare.

I know that I wasn't able to cause any damage because no one was listening to me but I wasn't the only one thinking that way.  The first four years of the Iraq war proved that.

What can I say?  We had the Victory Disease.  Hell we knew enough to watch for that and we still had the Victory Disease.  We had just run a super blitzkrieg against Iraq that was comparable to Cannae.  And in the long run was just as decisive, strategically.

The future of warfare is indeed in cities.  Our cities.

Takimag: It’s hard to talk about the attack without sounding like you’re blaming the victims, but it’s impossible to deny fear of Islamophobia and fear of guns led to a lot of deaths that night.

Jesse Hughes: I saw fear fall like a blanket on the whole crowd and they fell like wheat in the wind—the way you would before a god. I was totally alert from the very beginning. The first thing I needed to do was find my girl. Fear took a backseat and “where’s my girl?” took over. I could smell gunpowder in the backstage area and I knew someone fired a round back there. I saw a guy with an
FAL and when he turned to face me his eyes looked like marbles. He was stoned out of his mind, and we now know they were on Xanax and cocaine. I recognized him. I’d seen him earlier in the day and noticed him staring at us.

This is a map showing the location of the highest percentages of Muslims in the England and Wales.
Now what do these areas have in common.
Oh yes, they are all major cities.

The fact of the matter is that our modern left wing governments have turned cities into concentration camps for useless mouths to feed.  The reason is simple, it's where you put free housing. You can't build high rise low income housing in the country because that would make what you were doing obvious.  And this system only works, if the SWAPLs can pretend they aren't the cause of it all.  It only works if they can look into a mirror and not see the truth.

So the Violent Poor get packed underground like moorlocks.  But then one day the moorlocks get tired of eating each other.  And decide maybe it's time try for an eloi or two.

And the moorlocks find that the pickings are easy.

And given how almighty important it is to keep the Golden Lie unsullied by reality you can expect more and frequent attacks.  So what do you do if you are in a terrorist attack?

Davey [bassist Dave Catching] was in the middle of the stage and when the lights went on, he saw shit he’d never seen before in his life, awful stuff. It has no parallel. It’s not just death. It’s the most unsuspecting, innocent victims you can imagine—people who are gripped in terror and can’t move as a result of it.

Your first weapon is your mindset.

Most the people who died at Bataclan did so because they could not process the concept that they were under attack.   They were in Condition White and they stayed there even while they were being killed.  First and foremost accept the fact that you are under attack and you have to do something immediately.

"When in danger or in doubt run in circles, scream and shout" Believe it or not that is actually life saving advice.  Doing anything is better than doing nothing.

However it's far better to have an actual plan in the first place.

Again start with your mindset.

Put yourself in Condition Yellow (alert) and threat scan 360, Keep doing that.  If you detect a threat put yourself in Condition Orange (threatened).  No you aren't going to be enjoying the show that way.  Too bad, that was your father's world.  Your job now is to protect your family.

Next exfiltration.

Don't go into a room without a plan for getting out of it.  While your wife is settling the kids before the start of the show, you go scout out your family's primary, secondary and tertiary lines of retreat.

Preparation.

Make sure you have an EDC that you won't leave behind for the sake of convenience.
First and foremost bring your...smartphone.  If there is any one piece of equipment that is likely to get you out this alive, it's your smartphone.  Also have a pocket multi-tool and a pen flash light.  Yes, heavier equipment would be better but you won't be wearing your battlebelt for a night on the town.  As I've said before you aren't Batman.

Some of you have noted that there was one piece of EDC I left off list.    In my own state it would be illegal as hell for me to carry a gun into a theater, sports stadium, arena (etc) by state law those are gun free zones so I can't really advise you to go armed due to legal restrictions.  If you are armed that's on you, I didn't advise you to break state and local laws.  That didn't happen.

Show time.

Okay the balloon has gone up.  You are in the middle of a terrorist attack.  You have to make a quick assessment of the situation.  Is the crowd fighting back.  There are any number of terrorist attacks that fell apart for that very reason.  Remember these guys aren't the A-Team, this isn't their day job.  It doesn't take a lot to shift the momentum of the fight on to your side.  But if you fight with your fist expect to get punched.  If you fight with a knife, expect to get stabbed and if you fight with a gun expect to get shot.  The clean fight where you don't get hurt only happens in the movies.

Speaking of shooting.  If you are armed and directly targeted...okay, do what you gotta do but here is the price tag for doing it.

First, you will likely be shot and killed.  Once you engage him he will target you.  In a battle of pistol vs rifle, the rifle is the heavy favorite.

Second, if he is missing you, he is hitting the people right next to you, your aforementioned wife and children.

Third, you will charged with negligent homicide.  Not for killing the terrorist, that one was clean enough but you will have been firing into a target rich environment of Weapons-Tight Targets.   Not an easy thing for guys that train for it everyday, which you haven't.  This is a skill set that is very specialized and fades quickly.   You as a civilian have no legal protection if you kill the wrong person.  None.

Fourth, you will be killed by the police.  They have zero practical intel and are going in hot and shooting anyone with a gun in their hand.  They aren't going to be able to tell if you are a good guy or not because they are in a "heightened state of awareness."  They do have legal protection if they kill the wrong guy.

Your best bet is get yourself and your family out.

IF neither your primary or secondary lines of exfiltration are going to work (I.E. get you outside,) then it's time to implement Plan C.

Dig in and hope for the best.

Your tertiary line of retreat should take you someplace where you can shelter in place and wait for the good guys.

THIS NEXT PART IS JUST AN EXAMPLE NOT A RECOMMENDATION

A battle that is going according to plan is called an ambush.  If you are armed (for the sake of argument we shall say legally)  this is the time to bring that asset to bare.  As a for instance, a stadium restroom often has a privacy wall (if you are really made of solid concrete) acting as a partition.  But in this case it also acts as your ambush hide.  Around a corner at Bad Breath range, is one of the very rare situations where a pistol is preferable to rifle.   It will be difficult for the terrorist to bring his rifle to bare on you,  if you are around the corner at contact range.

Additionally, rest rooms have mirrors, break one and position a shard so you can see around the corner but he can't see you. If your flash light has a tactical strobe function, have that on standby.  If you suspect they are wearing body armor this is one of the equally rare instances you will have to try for a head shot.  If you engage successfully grab his weapons.

AS I SAID THIS AN EXAMPLE NOT A SET OF INSTRUCTIONS.

And forgive me for stating the obvious but don't shoot at the cops and yes you will still be in danger from them if you are armed.

Use your cellphone to try and get intell to the police outside.  If nothing else make sure they know where you are and if you are armed.

This is the world we live in now.  If you are planning to stay alive, then plan ahead.

UPDATE:

Eagles of Death, is now banned from the Parisian Music Festival because of Jesse Hughes' interview with Takimag.  Wherein he claimed that some Muslims are terrorists.

I wish I was joking.
